Sumner is located in Pierce County, Washington. According to the 2020 census, the population of Sumner was 10,621. The city is near the towns of Puyallup, Auburn, and Bonney Lake. It offers a variety of activities for all ages.
Heritage Park
The state of Washington owns Heritage Park, a 24-acre park located in Summerer Washington. This public park is adjacent to the Capitol Campus and Capitol Lake. This historic park has an interpretive walking trail and a large grassy field with picnic tables. The Washington State Patrol provides security at the park.
There are several attractions in this park, including a working water tower. The tower was built on a demonstration farm in 1917 and was powered by an electric pump. It was also connected to an underground electric system and an interurban railway. In 1997, it was saved from demolition for the construction of a freeway interchange, and was moved to Heritage Park in 2022. During the summer, Heritage Park is open for tours.
After the first study was conducted, the Heritage Park Development Association was formed. In 1992, the group completed a pre-Design Study that served as the primary vision for the park’s development. Subsequent state money funded the physical formation, infrastructure, and initial landscaping.

The other is Eastern Washington Butte, which is currently under development and will be landscaped as a rocky bluff. Both areas have lake edge access and seating for viewing events.
Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

He traveled to the Puyallup-Sumner Valley to look for business opportunities. A friend of his, Ezra Meeker, recommended George Ryan to buy a cabin and 40 acres in Sumner. George purchased the cabin in 1875 and enlarged it with a bow window and a second story.
In the past, the site was used for many different functions, including a farm, a post office, and retail space. Eventually, it became a museum and library. The renovations will bring back the active community gathering area that the museum once offered, and enhance the outdoor spaces. The project will also serve as a vital “anchor park” for the town’s Main Street Visioning Plan.
The museum is run by a volunteer board of directors. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with the museum’s activities. The museum provides tours, lectures, and workshops. Admission is free and open to all.
